Enhanced Cost Share for Acreage Loss Plan

The Crop Insurance Plan for Acreage Loss provides protection against vegetable crop production losses caused by designated perils. Through the combined efforts of Horticulture Nova Scotia and Nova Scotia Crop & Livestock Insurance Commission, the Province of Nova Scotia will pay 50% of producer premiums for the 2025, 2026 and 2027 crop seasons. Please see eligible crops below. 

Insurable Perils include:

  • Frost (May 1 – September 30)
  • Hail
  • Drought
  • Wind
  • Adverse Weather

Eligible vegetable crops include:

  • beets
  • carrots
  • green onions
  • parsnips
  • radish
  • rutabaga
  • summer turnips
  • yellow and red onions
  • early potatoes
  • broccoli
  • brussels sprouts
  • cabbage
  • cauliflower
  • celery
  • kale
  • lettuce
  • spinach
  • egg plant
  • field cucumber
  • field tomatoes
  • melons
  • peppers
  • pumpkin
  • summer squash and zucchini
  • winter squash
  • fresh beans

Deadlines and Eligibility

The deadline to apply for the 2025 crop season is June 30 and applications are now open. 

Each season, you must pay your premium by August 31 to have 50% of your premium paid.

 

Field Inspections:

Before approval for insurance and at intervals during the growing season, NSCLIC staff will inspect crops for best management practices and damage.
