Anaerobic Soil Disinfestation – A Look at On-Farm Implementation
July 14 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm
Session Description
Anaerobic soil disinfestation (ASD) is a low-cost, accessible process that was developed separately in the Netherlands and Japan. It is commonly used in the US as an effective, microbial-based method for controlling soil-borne pathogens, nematodes and weeds. The process requires minimal intervention and accessible inputs.
Horticulture Nova Scotia is currently implementing a 2-year program, assessing the feasibility and success of on-farm implementation of ASD in Nova Scotia. Snowy River Farms was one of our project participants and is opening the doors to her farm to share her experience with ASD implementation! The process took place during the summer of 2024, and we will be looking at the first crop planted into the treated soil. Join us for this in-person tailgate to see the results firsthand and learn a bit more about ASD.
